The launch of Galaxy S was one of the trendsetters in the smartphone industry. Galaxy S itself was a benchmark for smartphones few months back and S2 as a sibling is a step ahead.

Let us look into the major upgrades Galaxy S2 is out with:

Design:

Galaxy S2 is although a bit bigger round the edges; the phone does have some sharper changes making it more appealing with the metallic fixtures in the phone. Galaxy S2 at 8.49mm is the slimmest offering in the market today. It also has a larger display than its predecessor. Moreover it also is lighter than the original Galaxy S.

Display:

With 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display; this increases sharpness, contrast and everything else. The outdoor screen visibility of the phone too is better than its predecessor. Also, Samsung has improved the sub-pixel count making the display of 800 X 480(same as Galaxy S) sharper and brighter in S2.

Performance:

With 1.2 GHz dual core processor, the Galaxy S2 is far ahead of setting benchmarks instead of the 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor of Galaxy S; this makes it kind of a Super-phone in the market today. Moreover not to forget the RAM, boasting a memory of 1 Gigabyte, the RAM is higher than any of its probable competitors in the market (833MB in original Galaxy S). The higher amount of memory as well as an 'exynos' dual-core processor; make the Galaxy S2 one of the fastest phones till date.

Camera:

The most obvious hike is from 5MP (without flash) to 8MP with LED flash in Galaxy S2. Also the capability of 1080p video capture makes a trendsetter. With better AF and no-lag capture, gives the camera a boost. Another improvement is the 2MP secondary camera to improvise video calling quality.

Operating System:

Galaxy S2 comes with Android Gingerbread (v 2.3), which is overlayed with Samsung's TouchWiz 4, whereas Galaxy S comes with Android Eclair (v 2.1). Among the newer changes are the lock screen and other widget displays. Moreover a lot of pre-installed apps are also factory installed to make it the perfect business-ready package for the buyer.

Battery:

Galaxy S 2 factory packaged with 1650mAh battery; promises better battery life than the predecessor Galaxy S with Li-Ion 1500 mAh. Moreover the newer improved battery does juice up the device a bit longer than the original S, but there is not much large of a visible variation in the battery backup or talk time.

Connectivity:

Best of all it supports HSDPA for speeds up to 21MBPS which is a mile ahead of the 7.2MBPS on the original Galaxy S. It also comes with micro USB and micro HDMI ports to support major array of devices and connectivity options out there in the market. Also the device supports high speed 3G connectivity with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi ready.

Samsung Galaxy S2 vs. S

Although the Galaxy S2 comes with a comparatively heavier price tag than its predecessor, the kind of aesthetic appeal and better engineering does make it a Super-phone that is worth its price tag. Samsung Galaxy S2 no doubt is kind of a sibling to its original release, built bon the same style and performance features; the device with its host of improvements is much more than a trendsetter to the smartphone industry…
